The New Shirt Looks Totally Different

Don’t ask me why but here is a sexiness of a women wearing a man’s shirt. Base on that reason, i have  this design idea to alter a manly man shirt into something super feminine for the longest time. When my husband handed me a couple of his old button-down shirt, i know it is time for me to test my imagination and DIY skills.

There is no right or wrong design for DIY projects, your imagination is your best assets. Whatever you want to make, draw or write the idea down immediately. I would also suggest that you use your material wisely and try not to waste anything.

There are a lot of parts of the shirt we can incorporate into our design. The advantage is most things can be save for later use or make the design more cohesive. For example, the cuffs and collar of the shirt are great decoration pieces if you pull them apart and add it back to your alteration project later on. Another things is extra fabric can be use to make ruffles, bows or accessories to match the new outfit.

Step 1: Measure And Mark The Length And Shape

Take the time to measure how long you would like your future shirt to be, then use fabric market or chalk to draw the desire shape so it will be ready for cutting later.

Measure The Length

Step 2: Cut And Sew The Edge

After we draw out our design, use a pair of sharp scissor to cut out the excess materials. Proceed to finish the edges by folding toward the inside surface and sew along the edge to avoid framing.

Step 3: Measure First Then Alter And Sew

Along the side of the shirt part, roughly measure you bust and waist and turn the shirt in-side out to mark the desire design shape with fabric marker. Pin before sewing help to keep things in place. Sew along the lines to achieve the curve and slimming result. Remember the more accurate your measurement are, the more fitting it could be.

Step 5: Make Ruffles

Use the parts that you cut off and sew them into a long line of strip. Gather the stripe’s one edge and sew them into ruffles. Simple trick is keep making 1 cm double layer folds to top and bottom while sewing.
