Princess Flower Decor Mirror Tutorial

February 14th, 2011

I’m a big fan of Japanese princess style decorations. You will be surprise how some fake flowers and ribbon bow can turn all your old boring stuff into kawaii adorable accessories. Mirror, cell phone, camera, contact lance case, make up case, stationary, basket… all can transformed into ultimate fantasy decorations for a princess’s room.

If you are not sure is this your style, you can always start small. Just a little something to spark your interest. I am going to decorate a plain pink hand held mirror. Because the project is small, the amount of decorations are very minimal as well. All I use was some pink fake flower, lace and ribbon.

The cost is actually very low but after the transformation, the item will look much more valuable. My goal is to decorate it myself so it is unique and look fabulous. In the same time, I don’t have to waste money and purchase them in the stores. (Not to mention it is not that easy to get these type of stuff In USA)

Let me break down the cost so you can have an idea how affordable it is to do your own decoration. Last year I purchased a glam up flower and rhinestone hand held mirror from a local decor store in Tokyo while traveling. The cost for that tiny mirror is 1050 yen plus tax (about $12 USD).

In this tutorial,  I used a small pink hand held mirror (I got it in Hong Kong for less than USD $1). 3 medium size pink fake roses ( the whole bunch of 10 roses is only $1, so 3 is about $0.3), small amount of lace trim and ribbon ( total of $0.1), a glue gun and small amount of hot glue ( maybe $0.5), and a white heart shape pearl (less than $0.1).

With the total cost of 2 dollars and 15 minutes of my time, I have completed a super gorgeous looking flower mirror that look as cute as the one I bought in Japan. No travel and no skill needed. How can you say no to that? Unfortunately this is super addictive, once you try this DIY and find out how easy it is, you will want to decorate almost everything you have. I am the perfect examplen, that’s why you will see a lot more decoration tutorial posts later on. Hope you will like it as much as i do.

The lace I’m using is too wide so I have to trim off one side to make it fit my design.

Step 5: Make A Double Layer Bow

Use a small amount of pink ribbon and make a fancy bow. Pinch the bow in the middle and wrap thin wire around it and cover with thin ribbon then glue it onto the mirror.

Step 6: Final Touches

Add heart shape half pearl in the middle of the bow. Not only it can make the whole mirror look cute, it can act as cover up for mistakes and imperfection.
