This is a tutorial about how to make your own digital camera case. The advantages of DIY of course are save money, pick your favorite material, color, and the design. The one that I’m going to demonstrate is very basic, you can definitely make it fancier by choosing different fabric and adding other decorating materials. It’ll only take about 30 minutes to an hour to finish.
Material needed for this projects:
Furry fabric
Interfacing / liner fabric
Thread
Needle
Step 1:
Measure the camera size and cut the furry and liner fabric at least 3 times bigger. So that we can cover the back and front and have extra to flip over for the flap.
Step 2:
Once the fabric is cut, face them back-to-back and sew them together but leave an 1 inch gap for turning it inside out later.
Step 3:
Once it is turn inside-out, you will have piece of fabric that’s already lined and ready to use. Liner can be a little on the thick side if needed for padding reasons. My camera is a touch-screen so definitely can use some extra padding for protection.
Step 4:
Remember to sew that 1 inch gap you leave open earlier back together so the project can look finish.
Step 5:
For the back and front of the camera case, face them front to front and sew the sides together.
Step 6:
To give the camera case the 3D look, sew two little triangle at the bottom of the case (see the picture below). The width should be the same as the camera or slightly bigger.
Step 7:
Turn it inside out and see if your camera will fit inside.
Step 8:
The closing part is based on your preference. You can do a string and cute button, Velcro, or even snap.
I chose not to sew anything extra because I like the look of the entire camera case. It looks good like that, and I can add a cute hair tie to hold it shut. Anytime I want to remove or change it, it will be easy and won’t damage the case.
Hope you like my DIY project. Feel free to ask me questions anytime.
