Key chains and phone charms are my all time favorite accessories besides necklaces and bracelets. I am incorporating some other lovely features into the designs such as ribbon bows, pearls and adorable charms. Hopefully these designs can inspire you in some way.
Since I started this blog, I have received a lot of wonderful comments about my designs. Lot of my friends love it and want to purchase the items, so I decided to start an Etsy store once I move down to Seattle. That’s why I made lots of different design phone charms and key chains getting ready for my online store opening.
Phone charms might not be a super popular item in the United States yet mainly because not every cell phone here has the phone charm setting. On the other hand, in most Asian countries, major cell phone brand design has two tiny holes usually in the top corner for adding extra phone charm to dress up your phone.
Like most Asian girls, my key chain and cell phone always has lots of huge dangling parts that’s bigger than my actual cell phone. My husband think it is ridiculous but if you go to Hong Kong or Japan, that is actually a pretty normal for girls at all ages.
Besides a couple jewelry tools and some basic materials are needed, this is a pretty simple project that’s suitable for all ages. Adult supervising might be needed when it comes to cutting wires and using sharp scissor. You can even re-use your left over materials from other project and create different style charms base on your individual preferences.
Materials for Japanese style phone charms and key chains:
Jewelry Wire, Pre-Cut Jewelry Pin, Lobster Hooks, Jump Rings, Jewelry Tool Set, Silver/ Colored Chains, Pink & While Glass Pearls, Colored Beads, Ribbons, Fabric Glue…
Feel free to refer to my last post about each material’s purpose and store prices:

A couple useful tips:
1. Using a wire cutter can prevent unexpected wire flying accident.
2. Wiring the beads/ pearls can reduce the materials to the minimum.
3. Using lobster hooks can allow easy transfer from phone charm to key chain.
4. Use wire to hold the shape of the ribbon bow in the middle then wrap ribbon on the outside to cover the wire.
5. Left over jewelry making materials can be Incorporated into the design and change up the styles.
